Tree City of The World

Earlier this month, Charlotte earned the designation of Tree City of the World, an international recognition that highlights cities demonstrating exceptional commitment to urban forestry. This honor is awarded to communities that meet five core standards of responsible tree stewardship:

  • Clear leadership for tree care
  • Clear & effective polices & ordinances
  • An up-to-date tree inventory
  • Dedicated funding for tree management
  • Public engagement through events like Arbor Day.

Being named a Tree City of the World reflects Charlotte’s continuous efforts to preserve and expand its urban canopy—one of the defining features of the city’s identity. It also underscores the growing importance of environmental sustainability, community involvement, and long‑term planning to ensure that Charlotte remains a greener, healthier place for all who live, work, and visit here.

Make Your Curb a Tree Hub

This year, we at Landscape Management have a goal of planting over 800 street trees! What better way to celebrate Earth Month and Arbor Week than to request your own street trees?

Street trees help lower energy costs by providing much-needed shade along roadways and sidewalks. They help prevent flooding by acting as a natural infrastructure that slows down runoff, increases soil infiltration, and absorbs water. They also act as a vital habitat for birds and small mammals, and help support us by providing clearer air. They’re also just really pretty to look at, especially during the spring and fall.
